As part of its recent appeal to families, Netflix is rolling out two new features that emphasize children’s programming.
As you can see in the above image by Netflix, subscribers will start to see a new list of top 10 kids and family profiles ranking the most popular programs and movies for kids on Netflix.
According to Netflix, the rankings will be updated daily and it will reflect what its 208 million customers are watching in 93 countries around the world. You will have access to the top 10 on the kids’ homepage or in the “New and Popular” area of the menu bar for devices other than Apple TV.
Secondly, Netflix Will start sending out email newsletter every two weeks. This is to notify parents about their children’s activities on the streaming service platform, especially the kinds of movies they are watching.
The email will contain recommendations based on a child’s viewing habits, thematic preference such as science or friendship shows, tips on parental control over streamers. Netflix says, any parent who already has the Kids Profile set up should expect the email in his or her inbox by July 16th onwards.
The update comes as Netflix seeks changes as regards its kids’ content as it continues to compete with other streaming rivals.
On Tuesday, the company renewed its US licensing agreement for Universal’s animated films. This provided it with access to Illumination and Dreamworks films such as Minions: The Rise of Gru. Added to this, Bloomberg also announced that Netflix is partnering with Moonbug Entertainment for new shows based on its popular YouTube titles like CoComelon, Blippi, and Little Baby Bum.
According to Netflix’s Director of Product Innovation, Jennifer Nieva, the company has seen how “Top 10 rows” help its subscribers to find exciting things to watch. She added that this has helped families make the best decisions, which is important to Netflix.
That’s why we offer a wide variety of safe and fun tools for younger viewers like kids profiles, custom ratings and profile locks.
