MWEB ADSL has teamed up with FON, the acclaimed largest Wi-Fi network in the world, with over 12 million hotspots globally, to provide 30,000 hotspots across South Africa by the end of 2014.
ITNewsAfrica is reporting this partnership. The partnership is going to extend the location where MWEB customers can access Internet beyond their home and office to bring true unlimited Internet. MWEB is projecting that as soon as this growth is reached, its customers won’t have to try to minimise how they access the Internet when they are away from their homes and offices.
Fon started of in Spain in 2006, but has spawn four continents now and it still keeps growing. The Fon Global WiFi Hotspots is made up of different Fon members who have agreed to share a part of their WiFi bandwidth without exposing themselves to security threats. This means that Fon members are able to securely access any other Fon WiFi hotspot both locally and globally.
Commenting on this partnership, the CEO of MWEB has this to say: “We have been looking for a way to broaden our customers access to WiFi beyond their home or office network without compromising the quality of internet access that they’ve become accustomed to. The new Fon relationship will complement our existing WiFi zones and will give our customers access to cost effective, quality mobile Internet access and a growing network.”
