MTN Group has announced the appointment of Sandile Gwala as an independent non-executive director, effective from 1 January.
Gwala is the co-founder and chief executive officer of SoluGrowth, a business consultancy firm that caters to both local and international clients. He brings a strong educational background to the role, holding a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Information Systems and a Master in Business Administration from the University of Natal.
His professional experience is extensive and varied. Gwala previously served as a group executive director and partner at Deloitte in South Africa, and he also gained international experience working with Deloitte’s operations in the UK and Denmark.
In addition to his new role at MTN Group, Gwala holds a non-executive position at the non-profit organization Harambee, where he serves on various board sub-committees. He has also served as a non-executive director at Business Process Enabling South Africa, an industry body for the business services sector.
MTN Group highlights that Gwala will bring a wealth of experience and expertise in accounting, finance, and business performance to the board. “The chairman and the board look forward to his valuable contribution to MTN’s continued progress,” the company stated.
