MrBeast earns $263K from a video on X but labels the payout as ‘somewhat misleading’

MrBeast earned over $263,000 in ad revenue from his latest video posted on X, but the YouTube star considers this figure to be somewhat misleading.

MrBeast: The most-subscribed YouTuber debuts first comprehensive video on X

“Advertisers noticed the attention it was attracting and bought ads on my video (I think), resulting in my revenue per view probably being higher than what you’d usually experience,” MrBeast stated in an X post.

MY FIRST X VIDEO MADE OVER $250,000! 😲

But it’s a bit of a facade. Advertisers saw the attention it was getting and bought ads on my video (I think) and thus my revenue per view is prob higher than what you’d experience pic.twitter.com/nViVpZbWBb

Since taking the reins of Twitter (now known as X), Elon Musk has been striving to attract creators to the platform by introducing innovative monetization opportunities, like earning a share of ad revenue from their posts. And to ensure creators take the platform seriously, it would make sense to win over internet superstar MrBeast, who holds more subscribers than any other individual on YouTube.

Luckily for Musk, MrBeast admires him. However, business always comes first. When Musk sort-of invited the 25-year-old creator to post his videos on X, MrBeast responded that despite the high production costs of his content, he was open to experimenting with the platform once it demonstrated viable monetization prospects.

Clearly, that time has arrived, as MrBeast recently posted a 16-minute video on the platform out of curiosity to see the potential ad revenue generation. A week later, he shared a screenshot demonstrating the video’s success, with over 156 million impressions, 5 million engagements, and $263,655 in ad revenue.

However, during MrBeast’s test run, some users questioned whether X was handling the video as an advertisement, which could artificially boost engagement. This could be what MrBeast is referring to when he describes his monetization success as “a facade”.

this has shown up in my feed maybe 7 times now

it is both missing the post time next to the username (indicative of a normal user post) and the Ad indicator on the top right

so is there a third, secret type of post you get when you’re a YouTuber and Elon wants you to post here? pic.twitter.com/ESNKognTuk

X had been displaying unlabeled ads in users’ feeds, which led to a watchdog group lodging a complaint with the FTC over the continuing issue of unlabeled ads. Ryan Broderick speculated that videos may be erroneously labeled as ads if a pre-roll ad is played before the video starts, but this continues to create confusion among users. A representative from X has yet to provide any comment on this matter.
