Microsoft has established a new engineering organization designed to accelerate the development of AI infrastructure and software within the company.
According to Bloomberg, Jay Parikh, who previously served as Vice President and Global Head of Engineering at Meta, will lead this new division. Parikh will report directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and will oversee various groups, including the company’s AI platform and developer teams.
Parikh has a background in technical infrastructure and data center projects from his time at Meta. Before joining Microsoft in October, he was the CEO of the cloud security startup Lacework.
The new organization, named CoreAI — Platform and Tools, is a consolidation of Microsoft’s existing Developer Division (Dev Div) and AI platform teams, as reported by The Verge. It also includes some employees from the Office of the CTO division. CoreAI is structured to realign Microsoft’s developer teams to ensure that AI remains a top priority.
In an internal memo published on Microsoft’s blog, Nadella emphasized that the company’s focus for the coming year will be on “model-forward” applications that have the potential to “reshape all application categories.”
