Jared Cohen |
+Jared Cohen is the director of Google Ideas, an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, and the co-author (along with Google executive chairman and former CEO Eric Schmidt) of the New York Times best-selling The New Digital Age: Reshaping the Future of People, Nations and Business. He was named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in 2013.
He is a political transcendent who served on the State Department under both the Bush and Obama administrations. As an advisor to Secretaries of State Rice and Clinton, Cohen effectively pushed the “think tank” to evolve into what he calls a “think/do tank” by merging the State Department’s traditional handshake relationship-building with the connective power of technology.
A man of action as well as a creative thinker, Cohen successfully led a number of official diplomatic missions to some of the world’s most important (as well as troubled) emerging markets with the aim of connecting private businesses and foreign policies. These “tech delegations” became the foundation of what is now known as “21st century statecraft.” In a more controversial example of new approaches to statecraft, The New York Times broke a story in June 2009, citing Cohen as the State Department official who reached out to Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey urging the company to delay their scheduled maintenance shut-down of the site.
Jared will be speaking on the topic “The New Digital Age: Reshaping the future of People, Nations and Business” at The Platform 11.0, organised by Covenant Christian Centre.
