Commenting on the sale, Pele said: “It was a difficult decision to make but it takes a lot to properly care for these artefacts, and I felt I could do much more good by sharing these items with the world, as well as helping my causes that are important to me.”

The sale of the over 1,500 items is estimated to rake in between £2.5 million and £3.5 million according to Julien’s Auctions. The auction is expected to take place over three days in London in June.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento born 23 October 1940, known as Pelé, is a retired Brazilian professional footballer who played as a forward. He is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time.
