Introducing Token, a smart ring that houses all your digital keys

A company named Token, has just unveiled a smart ring also named Token that houses all your digital keys – credit cards, house keys, website credentials, transit cards, car keys, and even it can be your access badge . It is touted as one ring to access everything.

This circular ring contains Bluetooth and NFC connectivity, along with a fingerprint and optical sensor. It is waterproof and available in seven sizes. It comes in sterling silver, rose gold, and black.

According to the CEO of the company, Melanie Shapiro in a post, “We built a secure environment for these artifacts to live on from a combination of asymmetric cryptography, biometrics, and a secure element. And we used the engrained behavior (swiping a card, entering a password, using house keys) as our benchmark for convenience — we didn’t build a feature unless we could make it faster and easier.”

To activate the ring, you simply place your ring finger’s print on the sensor, which is located on the inner ring. Then put the ring on, and the optical sensor detects that you’re wearing it. Your fingerprint data is stored on the secure element within your Token. It never leaves the ring, so you can be sure that it’s safe.

When the ring is not in use, the optical sensor shuts detects this and the ring shuts down and cannot be used until the finger reauthorizes it.

A single charge with reasonable daily usage will last approximately 14 days.

Melanie says that the company has built partnerships with organizations like Microsoft, Mastercard, HID, and Visa to ensure it is versatile. At launch, there will be six main functions of the Token smart ring: Store your passwords, allowing you to log in with just two knocks; unlock your front door; tap and go with more than 50 transit systems worldwide; replace your workplace access card; unlock your car; and add your credit card to make payments at more than 15 million stores.

The Token is available for pre-order now at Tokenize.com.. It costs $249 and will start shipping in December 2017.
