InfiniLink, a semiconductor startup based in Egypt, has made headlines with the successful completion of a $10 million funding round aimed at enhancing its innovative optical data connectivity solutions tailored for AI-driven data centers. Founded in 2022, InfiniLink specializes in developing advanced silicon photonics technology, particularly focusing on integrated optical transceiver chiplet (iOTC) technology.
The recent funding round received significant backing from prominent investors, including MediaTek, a leading fabless semiconductor company, and Sukna Ventures, a venture capital firm based in Riyadh. Additional support came from Egypt Ventures, a notable Egyptian venture capital firm, and angel investor M Empire Angels. This diverse group of investors underscores the growing interest in InfiniLink’s cutting-edge technology and its potential impact on the semiconductor industry.
InfiniLink’s iOTC technology is designed to address the escalating bandwidth demands driven by the increasing prevalence of AI workloads and data-intensive applications. As traditional electrical and optical interconnects struggle to keep pace with these demands, InfiniLink aims to revolutionize data center connectivity by providing low-power pluggable transceiver modules and high-bandwidth-density co-packaged optical engines. These innovations promise to deliver ultra-fast and energy-efficient connectivity, which is essential for the next generation of AI-centric data centers.
Ahmed Aboul-Ella, co-founder and CEO of InfiniLink, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with MediaTek, stating;
Collaborating with MediaTek will be instrumental in advancing our vision for cutting-edge optical connectivity solutions. With this strategic partnership, we look forward to accelerating the commercialization of our innovative technologies. We believe it will make a significant impact on data center optical connectivity.
George Chien, senior general manager at MediaTek, also shared his excitement about the partnership, noting;
We are thrilled to be part of InfiniLink’s journey. Over the past three years, our partnership has been very successful, culminating in the establishment of MediaTek Egypt. We look forward to further scaling our collaboration in the region with this investment.
Waleed Alballaa, general partner at Sukna Ventures, highlighted the importance of InfiniLink’s technology in meeting the energy demands of AI in data centers;
At Sukna Ventures, we are proud to partner with InfiniLink. Their groundbreaking optical connectivity technology, engineered by an exceptionally skilled team, addresses AI’s relentless energy demands in data centers. This innovation perfectly aligns with our mandate to empower high-potential startups from the MENA region, and we are committed to supporting their international scaling efforts.
With this funding, InfiniLink is poised to make significant strides in transforming data center connectivity, leveraging its expertise in analog mixed-signal and photonics design to meet the growing needs of the AI-driven landscape.
