    Gamathon 2024: Africacomicade Convenes Stakeholders for 6 Days of Networking, Collaboration, and Funding Opportunities

    Africacomicade is set to reconvene leading experts in the Video Games, Immersive & Interactive Media Industries for the Gamathon convention 2024, themed “THRIVE.” The event will occur in Lagos State, Nigeria, from September 30, 2024, to October 5, 2024.

    Since its initiation in 2020, the Gamathon has successfully united global stakeholders and established partnerships with major industry players such as XBOX, STEAM, UNITY, Rovio, Carry1st, the IGDA Foundation, IndieGame Business, and Humble Bundle, amongst others. These collaborations have facilitated dynamic discussions and knowledge sharing, leading to a more profound understanding of the potential and prospects inherent in the African video game industry. In 2023, $30,000+ was distributed as prototype grants and Jam prizes, 2000+ youths were introduced to the Games Industry, and 20+ Game projects were published from within the community.

    Now in its fifth edition, the Gamathon convention is expected to feature a game jam with African game development talents building exciting and interactive video games; an Ark pitch where game studio founders and indie developers are provided with the platform to pitch their projects for an opportunity to receive prototype grants; an industry showcase designated for the exhibition of tons of creative outputs; the tour of Lagos city for an interlude view of several delightful locations; panel sessions to imbue experts and participants in an interactive discovery conversation; and a gaming EXPO. Activity structures are designed towards digital art & animation, video game development, and extended reality verticals.

    The last edition was apexed with lineups of prestigious speakers, such as Temi Afolabi, Global Expansion at Microsoft Gaming; Amélie FABRE and her fellow Co-Founder at Gara Store, Janet Ejegbu; Ahmed Maawy, Lead Godot Advocate in Africa; Ada Aguocha, Senior associate, Banwo & Ighodalo; Oluwaseye Ayinla, NIgerian Games Industry Veteran; Amanda Duarte, Women Game Jam, Canada; Dara Osibo, Principal, Green House Capital; and Margherita Marini, IP Commercialization Specialist, WIPO.

    Investors, regulators, industry players, ecosystem leaders, creative teens & youths, government stakeholders, Game studio founders, NGOs, Cultural organizations, Fintech, Edtech, LegalTech, Managers, Specialists, Founders, Executives, Startups, et al., are invited to attend.
