The 2nd iDEA software incubation centre located at Tinapa in Cross River state officially launched on Friday, 2nd August 2013.
Information Technology Developers Entrepreneurship Accelerator (iDEA) is a not-for-profit organization whose primary purpose is to accelerate the development of the software industry in Nigeria by nurturing and helping Nigerian software technology businesses. It is the brainchild of the Minister of Communications Technology, Mrs Omobola Johnson and is being implemented by the National Information Technology Agency (NITDA) through its consultants, High-Tech Data Systems Ltd.
The first centre was opened in Lagos on the 19th of April, this year.
The launch was heralded with the Hackathon competition which started on Tuesday, July 30 with 27 contestants who were grouped into a team of 10.
The iDEA Hackathon competition was a 42-hour app-building contest where the most innovative application will receive a cash prize of N450, 000 and two Z10 blackberry phones.
There were also cash prizes for second and third most innovative Apps.
Judges from top IT firms like Microsoft, Nokia, Google presided over the Apps developed by the contestants in the last 42-hours.
The Hackathon competition was being facilitated by the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON).
