Flutterwave, one of Africa’s most prominent financial technology firms, has marked a major step in its international growth by revamping and reintroducing its Send App to users across a broader range of U.S. states. This follows the company’s successful acquisition of 20 new Money Transmitter Licenses (MTLs), boosting its total licenses in the U.S. to 34—up from 14 in 2023.
With these additional regulatory approvals, Flutterwave can now operate independently in a significant number of U.S. states and territories, bypassing the need for third-party intermediaries.
The newly upgraded Send App enables users across the United States to remit funds directly to Nigeria, Ghana, and Egypt—creating vital financial bridges between African diaspora communities and their countries of origin. The update also features a faster onboarding process with simplified ID verification, aiming to improve user access and reduce entry friction.
Users will also benefit from improved compatibility with major U.S. card networks such as Visa and Discover, as well as tighter security protocols and streamlined in-app navigation designed for a more intuitive and safe transaction experience.
The relaunch is now live in key locations including Washington, D.C., Georgia, Michigan, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Additionally, the Send App supports transfers from 27 other states and territories, including Illinois, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Puerto Rico, and Oregon.
Flutterwave CEO and Founder, Olugbenga “GB” Agboola, emphasized the company’s broader vision:
“This expansion strengthens our ability to help Africans in the diaspora remain financially connected to loved ones back home. It’s also a major stride in our goal to make cross-border transactions seamless, compliant, and inclusive.”
The relaunch also comes on the heels of Flutterwave’s earlier initiatives, including the integration of its foreign exchange service Swap into the Send App and its recently secured approval from the Bank of Ghana to facilitate inbound transfers to Ghana.
Flutterwave’s strategic U.S. licensing push and Send App relaunch not only reflect the company’s global ambitions but also signal a broader commitment to solving real-world problems for Africans worldwide—especially those navigating cross-border financial relationships.
