Facebook is monitoring your activities even when you’re not on the app. In fact, it can go as far as monitoring your bank activities on the application. Don’t be shocked. This is just one example of their extensive data collection efforts. I know you’re not comfortable with that, and that’s the reason why I’ve written this article to show you how to stop it.
To regain control over your data, follow these steps:
- Access your Account Center: Go to your Facebook settings, scroll down to look for “Your Information.” If you’ve updated your app, this option might be located in the Meta Account Center. Tap “See more in Account Center.”
- Find “Your Information and Permissions”: In the Account Center, locate and tap “Your Information and Permissions.”
- Access “Apps and Websites off Facebook”: On the next page, find and tap “Apps and Websites off Facebook.” Then, select “Your activity off Meta technologies.”
- Review Off-Facebook Activity: You’ll be directed to a page titled “Review your off-Facebook activity in Accounts Center.” Click “Continue.” (Note: If you encounter issues with the “Continue” button, try accessing this section from a laptop or desktop computer.)
- View Recent Activity: On the “Recent activity” page, enter your password to view the data Facebook has collected about your off-Facebook activities. Be prepared to be surprised! You might discover unexpected information, such as the “411 interactions” I found related to my Kuda app transactions.
- Clear Previous Activity: To remove this collected data, go back, search for “Clear previous activity,” and tap “Clear.”
- Disconnect Future Activity: Finally, return to the “Recent activity” page, scroll down to “Manage future activity,” select “Disconnect future activity,” and then “Continue.”
Disconnecting future activity is a crucial step in limiting Facebook’s data collection, but it’s not the only one. Remember that Facebook, like many tech giants, has developed sophisticated tools to track and record your online behavior, even across devices within your network, since you agreed to their terms of service. This tracking often continues in the background, even when you’re logged out.
Most users likely haven’t taken the time to fully understand the implications of these terms. By implementing these privacy measures, you can significantly reduce Facebook’s data collection and regain control over your online privacy. However, continuous vigilance is key. Regularly review your Facebook settings and adjust them as needed to ensure your information remains secure.
