Pacific Research Laboratories, the parent company to Sawbones, and Numalogics, a subsidiary of Spinologics have partnered to develop computational modeling and simulation software applications for the orthopedic medical device industry.
In a competitive space, orthopedic medical device manufacturers look to bring products to market in a more efficient way. Computational modeling and simulation allow engineers to create and test devices in a virtual world and ultimately speed up the research and development process.
Ina market that is competitive, orthopedic medical device manufacturers look to bring new products to the market in a more effective way. Computational modeling and simulation allow engineers to develop and test devices in a virtual world and to speed up research and development.
Sawbones supply bone surrogate materials to the orthopedic industry and are consistently used to perform bench tests on new devices. With the new simulation software, sawbones will be able to do testing easily in a fast-paced virtual environment.
Design engineer at Sawbones, Amy Posch dais: “Sawbones tries to provide the most comprehensive and easy to use products that continue to stimulate bone characteristics for physical testing. Customers will be able to optimize devices designs more efficiently and quicker by adding computational simulation to our biomechanical test line.”
With the support of Sawbones, Numalogics aims to develop the most accurate computer models of bone surrogate materials in the industry and use the models in user-friendly software applications. Numalogics is among the first companies globally to fully democratize and automate computer simulation for the medical device industry.
The president of Numalogics, Eric Gaudreau said: “Computer modeling and simulation is been widely adopted at a tremendous rate amongst R&D teams. It helps to bring their product innovations faster into the market. The credibility and reliability of virtual models have been accepted widely. While we see an opportunity for all orthopedic device companies to benefit from our apps we believe there is a need for medium and small-size companies. However, they do not have the capacity to hire simulation experts. We hope our software solves the problem.”
Sawbones and Numalogics are early in the process of development and are expected to release the software in 2022.
