The Cupertino-based innovative giant, Apple, is ordinarily known for phones, tablets and accessories. Now the company is going into electric cars.
According to WSJ, Apple Inc. is accelerating efforts to build an electric car, designating it internally as a “committed project” and setting a target ship date for 2019. It is reported that the team working on the project has been given permission to triple the 600-person team.
The company is indeed working on an electric car under an initiative that’s code-named “Titan,” which is to challenge Tesla in Electric Cars.

One wonders what kind of revolution it is bringing to cars as in the music and smartphone space. “Apple’s commitment is a sign that the company sees an opportunity to become a player in the automotive industry by applying expertise that it has honed in developing iPhones—in areas such as batteries, sensors and hardware-software integration—to the next generation of cars.” so says WSJ.
Wired reports that Apple should be ready to face the challenges possibly thrown up by Federal regulations when it comes to building cars. It concludes that Apple’s total lack of experience in this industry means it’s got a gargantuan amount of studying to do if the feds are going to allow it sell a car at all.
Apple’s Titan car project is reportedly headed by Steve Zadesky, a former Ford engineer, and is staffed by former Mercedes-Benz and Tesla personnel, among others.
