OpenAI, the company behind the ChatGPT chatbot, announced that it is introducing the ChatGPT app for Apple’s iOS. This app is free to use and is now available in the US for iPhone through Apple Inc.’s App Store. The app syncs your history across devices and also integrates Whisper, OpenAi’s open-source speech-recognition system, enabling voice input. Users can also type questions and receive responses from the chatbot.
According to OpenAi in its blog post, with the ChatGPT app, users can have access to the following:
- Instant answers: Get precise information without sifting through ads or multiple results.
- Tailored advice: Seek guidance on cooking, travel plans, or crafting thoughtful messages.
- Creative inspiration: Generate gift ideas, outline presentations, or write the perfect poem.
- Professional input: Boost productivity with idea feedback, note summarization, and technical topic assistance.
- Learning opportunities: Explore new languages, modern history, and more at your own pace.
As for ChatGPT Plus subscribers, they get exclusive access to GPT-4’s capabilities, early access to features and faster response times, all on iOS.
The rollout has started in US and will expand to additional countries in the coming weeks. OpenAI said that ChatGPT will be coming to Android devices soon.
Launched in November 2022, ChatGPT reached 100 million users in the month of January 2023. It recently started rolling out ChatGPT 4, the latest in the iterations of the artificial intelligence chatbot. Before this development, ChatGPT was previously available online on OpenAI’s website, as well as through an application interface used to build third-party apps.
The ChatGPT app is coming only a few days after after Google lifted the waitlist from its own AI chatbot, Bard.
