All-in-one mobility app, Bolt, has launched Bolt Market in Kenya, its first country in Africa. Bolt Market is Bolt’s on-demand grocery delivery service, which was launched in 2021. The service initially began in the Baltic States and has since expanded to other countries, including Sweden, Poland, and the Czech Republic. It operates by offering quick delivery of groceries through Bolt’s app, aiming to cater to customers seeking convenience and speed in their grocery shopping.
Bolt Market is available on the Bolt Food app and according to the company, it has taken all of its experience in food delivery operations and logistics to bring additional value to Bolt Food customers.
This initiative is a key part of Bolt’s broader strategy to expand its service offerings, increase its market presence, and position itself as a reliable platform for fast, on-demand grocery deliveries.
To mark the launch, Bolt Market is offering free delivery for orders within a 3 km radius and up to 80% off on select items. The service is available within a 10 km radius from the Bolt Market store in Kilimani. Fully integrated with the Bolt Food app, users can explore a diverse range of over 2,000 curated products, including fresh produce, household essentials, and beverages from local suppliers.
Bolt Food’s General Manager, Edgar Kitur, highlighted that the introduction of Bolt Market aims to enhance the grocery delivery experience in Kenya, serving a vibrant food and grocery ecosystem. “With Bolt Market, customers can access a wide selection of carefully chosen products, ensuring top quality while saving time,” he said.
Customers can order groceries by downloading the Bolt Food app, where they can browse through the available products. The app provides details on prices and estimated delivery times before customers confirm their order. Customers can place grocery delivery orders between 8:00 am and 11:00 pm, and also schedule orders for delivery up to 24 hours in advance. Payment is made by entering bank card details into the app.
It is unclear whether Bolt Market will be expanded to other African markets, especially since the mobility company recently exited the food delivery space in South Africa and Nigeria. Since the grocery delivery service is integrated into the Bolt Food app, which has been discontinued, questions arise about how it will be featured in these markets. Does Bolt Market have its own app, or will it be launched in other regions through the existing infrastructure?
