There is an online challenge currently gathering momentum and followers on the internet. It is the “Blue Whale” Suicide challenge. It is also known as “A Silent House”, “A Sea of Whale”, “Wake Me Up At 2.40a.m.”

It is played on many social media platforms. Players are given a master who controls them for 50 dyas and each day they are given a task to complete.

The game encourages youngsters to complete a series of challenges over 50 days, ranging from waking up in the night to carving a whale or other objects somewhere on their bodies. The tasks steadily escalates and on the 50th day, the master behind the game instructs the youngsters to commit suicide.

It is reportedly linked linked to 130 teen deaths in Russia. It is silently creeping across many countries.

The game, known as the ‘blue whale’, hit the headlines in March after two teenage girls plunged to their deaths from a 14 storey building in the city of Krasnoyarsk, Siberia.

According to the newspaper Novaya Gazeta, the deaths of Yulia Konstantinova (15) and her friend Veronika Volkova (16) are being investigated by state investigators in Krasnoyarsk, east of Moscow.

Parents and carers have been warned to be aware of this game so as to keep their wards and children safe.

It is not known who started the game.

The name is said to be a reference to blue whales tendency to beach themselves and die.
