Amazon’s most recent job cuts impact its Buy with Prime division

Amazon has confirmed the laying off of approximately 30 employees within its Buy with Prime component, which accounts for less than 5% of the division’s staff.

The Buy with Prime unit, which has been broadening its scope since its inception in April 2022, enables online shops to present Prime shipping benefits to their customers. Amazon didn’t disclose the total number of staff involved in this sector, however.

The spokesperson for the company stated, “Post a recent review of our team structure and in alignment with business needs, we’ve come to the hard decision of terminating a handful of roles within our Buy with Prime squad.”

Nevertheless, Amazon maintains that the unit remains a crucial focus, with significant capital set to continue supporting its development.

Notably, several affected employees were part of Amazon’s multichannel fulfillment department. This service allows vendors to leverage Amazon’s shipping and storage offerings, regardless of whether they sell on Amazon’s primary platform.

The layoffs are part of an ongoing trend, with the company having eliminated over 27,000 jobs across various divisions since late 2022. The trend of workforce reductions extends to other tech giants like Google, Discord, Xerox, and Unity.

Being mindful of the layoffs, Amazon has pledged to help impacted employees in the Buy with Prime department find alternate roles within the company. Moreover, these employees will retain their pay and benefits for a minimum span of 60 days along with an eligible severance package.
