17-year old Esther Wamai Githinji, a Grade 13 student of Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj School, emerged as the winner of the 2013 Kenya Doodle 4 Google competition.
Google Kenya launched the Doodle 4 Google 2013 competition to celebrate the country’s 50th anniversary in December. The competition was opened to all Kenyan school students aged between 6 years to 18 years.
Esther’s doodle, “Feet of Gold,” was featured on the Google Kenya homepage on Mashujaa Day – 20 October 2013.
Esther, who says her inspiration came from her art teacher and parents, will now receive a KES 800,000 tuition scholarship, an Android Tablet and a KES 800,000 technology grant for her school.
In addition to the National Winner, Google fans across the country helped to choose the 3 National Age Category Winners, who will each receive an Android tablet and assorted prizes:
- Age Category 6 – 8: Neer Jaynish Shah (Oshwal Academy, Nairobi) for his doodle “Proud to celebrate Fifty Years of Kenya with Honor.”
- Age Category 10 – 14: Joash Kikoso Nathan (Rusinga School, Nairobi) for his doodle “My Home Kenya.”
- Age Category 15 – 18: Drupad Dinesh Revankar (Arya Vedic Secondary, Nairobi) for his doodle “Colours of Kenya.”
